Flagman is a game released in 1980 for the Game & Watch, it is the second Game & Watch handheld after Ball, and is the second in the Silver series, it was originally known as Flag Man in North America. Similar to Ball, it has also been re-released multiple times.

Gameplay

Like Ball, the player can choose to either play Game A or Game B, or have it display the time, in Game A, the gameplay is similar to Simon Says, the character on screen holds up a flag saying 1, 2, 3, or 4 and the player has repeat what they do, each time the player gets the pattern correctly, another flag is held after the previous pattern, failing the pattern or running out of time gets rid of a live and losing all three lives ends the game, in Game B, the gameplay is the same, but instead of copying a pattern, the player has to press the right button quickly, pressing the wrong button or not pressing a button in time makes the player lose a life. Over time, the amount of time the player has shortens. If the player chooses Time, the character uses the flags in a clockwise pattern, going from 1, to 2, to 4, to 3, and back to 1.

Ports

Flagman appears in Game Boy Gallery, where the gameplay is the same, with boats appearing when the player gets a certain amount of points, a rowing boat at 20 points and a yacht at 30 points. In the game's story, it takes place after Vermin, where after losing that job, the person starts working at the local boating lake, with their job being to hold up flags to tell people that their time is up, but around that time, the school holidays started and more people came. Eventually, the person quits the job and starts working at the local council, with that job leading to Manhole.

Flagman also appears in the Game & Watch Gallery series as a game in the Gallery Corner starting with Game & Watch Gallery where it can be unlocked by getting 400 points in the modern version of Fire, it can be unlocked in Game & Watch Gallery 2 and Game & Watch Gallery 3 by linking the games to Game & Watch Gallery. It appears as a unlockable game in Game & Watch Gallery 3, being the first game the player unlocks when they get 10 stars, like all unlockable games, it doesn't have a modern version. The player gets a star every five points, with all five stars being gotten at twenty-five points.

Flagman appears in Wario Land II where it can be unlocked by collecting every piece of treasure and winning every map piece. It is called Flagman D-D with the main difference about the game being that the character onscreen is replaced with a D.D.. The game is the same at the start, with the only difference that the player controls the game with the D-Pad, but when the player gets ten points, a White puff appears and adds the number 5 to the sequence, and when the player gets fifteen points, a Gugi appears and adds the number 6 to the sequence, 5 is used when the player presses A and 6 is used when the player presses B, when the player reaches 20 points, a person in a boat far away from the player is shown to distract the player.

Like most other Silver Game & Watch games, it also cameos in Kanji Sonomama DS Rakubiki Jiten, where if the players type "Flagman", an entry called "FLAGMAN" appears, it plays the same as the original.

Flagman was one of the first four Game & Watch games to release as DSiWare in Japan, and it was the second to last game released in North America alongside Donkey Kong Jr.. It has the same extra features as the other DSiWare releases.

Moves

Mr. Game & Watch's up tilt is based off of this game, with him holding up a flag with the number 1 on it. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, his design is changed so he looks like the character in Flagman, and instead of holding one flag, he holds up both top flags, using 2 first, then using 1.
